China Trek Expands Horizons For Carey Students

Seventeen companies. Nine days. Two cities. Countless connections. Those are the numbers behind the third annual Carey Business School China Trek, organized by the Pan-Asian Career Association (PACA) and Careyâs Career Development Office. From January 9 to the 16, Carey college students, led by Christy Murray, executive director of Career Development, visited each Shanghai and Beijing, meeting with representatives from a various group of companies as well as attending a number of alumni events that includes current Carey graduates now working and residing in China. âThis was our biggest group ever,â stated Murray. âMost firmsâ recruitment begins within the fall, so this was a great time for college students to go to, learn about these organizationsâ mission and tradition, discover potential alternatives, and for these corporations to get to know our college students, in flip.â Employer treks provide students with alternatives to journey and interact w ith business leaders, study key industries, and meet Carey alumni. In 2018, more than 230 students participated in 17 treks to local, home, and international employers. Several weeks after their return, the Carey students held a âreflection session,â open to the Carey group, to discuss their experiences and chief takeaways. Students comprising a special panel and help included Haichao Cui (moderator), Qianli Zhou, Yiyang Lan, Lucas Lin, Yuanbei Tang, Yi Yang, Li Qian, and Kaiji Ren. The whole pupil group represented numerous degree applications, including the Global MBA, MS in Finance, MS in Marketing, and MS in Business Analytics and Risk Management. One of the largest takeaways was that a Carey Business training was relevant to many disciplines, not just in a selected subject of study, so it's advantageous to maintain oneâs ch oices â" and imagination â" open to new prospects. âBefore the trek, I was only in search of jobs in the funding banking subject,â mentioned MS in Finance pupil Li Qian. âAfter visiting companies like Roche and Daimler, I discovered that I can work for a lot of firms as a result of so long as you have the relevant ability units, yow will discover a fantastic job and be a game changer to your new employer.â âItâs essential not simply to pursue big names [of corporations],â added MS in Marketing scholar Yi Yang, one of many panelists, in making connections and exploring opportunities. âYou must know your self, know the companies in which youâre interested.â The Career Development Office organizes two kinds of treks annually. During the academic yr, Career Development Office collaborated with 9 pupil organizations to plan 10 employer treks, visiting 35 corporations in New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and in Beijing and Shanghai, China. In January 2019, CDO coordinated eight signature treks to New York City, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Beijing and Shanghai. That month alone, 113 pupil participants visited 48 employers. Past employer treks have met with such corporations as Morgan Stanley, Exelon, GE, Microsoft, Bank of America, Deloitte, Novartis, A.T.
